Summary
Dear Friends,
Yesterday, peaceful protestors were physically assaulted at Naperville’s march for Israel that was attended by a number of our members (for coverage click here).
We are outraged that the climate has turned so critical of Israel that across our nation and the world, Jews are being attacked, both while supporting Israel and while simply going about their lives.
For those of you who identify as progressives, I wanted to share this article on how to support Israel as a progressive.
Please join us next Sunday morning for the talk with Israeli journalist Yossi Klein Halevi. Yossi’s work is always balanced, thoughtful, and insightful. He is an activist working towards understanding and peace with Muslims across the world (https://www.letterstomyneighbor.com/).
He also is a nuanced defender of the Israeli side of the narrative that is receiving so little coverage in the media today.
Here is are the final paragraphs of an op-ed that he wrote in the LA times yesterday:
“Israel is the only country whose neighbors have sentenced it to death. Israel is also the only democracy that is a long-term occupier of another people. To effectively fight terror, Israel must strive to maintain moral credibility as a reluctant occupier. A renewed Israeli peace initiative is our opportunity to convey our vision for a different Middle East.
A new peace process would also ensure that the next time we are forced to fight those committed to our destruction, our friends at least will be able to unequivocally affirm Israel’s moral high ground.”

In light of the events of the past few weeks and of the one-sided coverage in many news outlets, we are opening this talk up to the wider community. Please invite any friends or family members and pass it on to neighbors. The talk is renamed, Israelis & Palestinians, "What's Next?".
Here is the link to register for the talk this Sunday, May 30th 11am, with gratitude to Henry and Sally Guralnick for sponsoring this important discussion.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Adir Glick
