We sit on the cusp of a new year. Our yontiv season is serious and awe-filled, but also joyous and inspiring (see how the cantor and I have been preparing by clicking here).
A special quality of spirit refreshes our memory as to what it is all about; spending precious time with family and community, seeking the sweetness of a new beginning, and looking – deeply – at our lives. Who are we? What was our year about? What are we looking toward?
We speak of the Day of Judgement. But the holiday is even more about examining and counting.
Every year, we can count our blessings and see that they are numerous.
We can examine our lives and think about where new effort and energy need to go to find the strands of a new start.
Every year, we miss dear friends and family members who cannot join us as we mark the passing of another year – 5783. We rejoice with those who are with us to celebrate the first days of 5784.
We pray for health, blessing, and peace for us and for all of Israel, for all of our restlessness and agitated world.
Our services begin tonight at 6pm. Services on Saturday and Sunday start at 8:45am. Because the first day of Rosh Hashanah is Shabbat, we will blow the shofar and have tashlich on Sunday instead (tashlich is at 2:30pm).
I look forward to seeing all of you soon.
With greetings for a shanah tovah u’metukah, a sweet and good new year from me and the Glick family.
