Dear Friends,
As we marked this week one month since the October 7th attacks, the war in Gaza continues. For us in the Diaspora, we are feeling increasingly alone. I woke up this morning to reports that my very good friend and rabbinical school havruta (study partner) Rabbi Andy Green in Scottsdale had received a death threat. A synagogue and JCC in Montreal were targeted with Molotov cocktails. Students at Penn University got emails threatening violence. The antisemitism in Europe is unprecedented, at its highest level since the Holocaust.
Yossi Klein Halevi wrote today that as Jews we are feeling like our grandparents. We are in danger and the world is not hearing us. It almost feels as if we are speaking Yiddish.
We are tired of justifying the existence of the Jewish state and the safety of our Diaspora communities, from universities, to synagogues, to our residential neighborhoods.
It has not just been a time of fear and sadness, it also has been a time of the Jewish people rallying together - for Israel, for our people. Next Tuesday, November 14th, the American Jewish community is mobilizing at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for what may be the most important march of American Jewry in this nation’s history. JUF is offering $200 per ticket for people who wish to fly or take the train. I urge you all to go. I will be there and will send information for anyone who would like to join me for the march itself.
